What is optimism?
- hopefulness & confidence about the future or the successful outcome of something
- the belief that good must ultimately prevail over evil in the universe
What does "optimistic" mean?
- hopeful and confident about the future
- involving an overestimate
The problem optimism and being optimistic
When it comes to optimism and being optimistic... to be hopeful and confident, YES. That's cool and all. But we know Life throws us curve balls to hit, and storms to walk through. How are we supposed to feel during those times? That's why I also included optimistic because the second definition says, "involving an overestimate." When I'm being realistic with Life, I don't want to overestimate the good feelings and feel wrong, stupid for thinking those good feelings, and be let down. I don't want optimism tbh. I want positivity.
What is positivity?
Why is positivity better than optimism?
The keyword in positivity is practice like it's a skill and something to be mastered and not just one way of being/feeling. Positivity is a point of view to be practiced and sharpened.
What would you call a positive person?
So I looked up, what we would call a positive person. Like we call someone with optimism an optimist. What do call someone who is positive thinking? I guessed a "positivist"... but I found this:
someone who emphasizes observable facts and excludes metaphysical speculation about origins or ultimate causes
And that's not what I'm talking about...So I wrote my own definition cause it's the 2020s and I can, and I did
What is a positivitist?
- Finding the positive steps to take after unfavorable happenings
- Creating the future out of the choices within the present moment
- Expecting sudden requests and unforeseen detours, and do what you gotta do, do not resent them
- Having a hope anchor secured
Why "Let's Get Posi"
It's not about "just be happy." It's not about just putting a smile on. It's about being present in Life and living life. Life is to be lived, not controlled. While getting hurt is real and nothing to ignore at all, staying upset or bitter is a reaction we do control. Let's Get Posi is about living the motto, "Faith it til you make it." Yes. Life sucks sometimes. But on the other hand, there are positive and productive things we can do to get through it:
#1 - PRAY. It wasn't until I got to know the Creator of All Things, that all things started to come together for me. "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7) I know it's hard to trust people nowadays. But remember God is not human. We can trust him with anything and everything. We can trust him to listen when we share our fears and doubts. We can trust him to strengthen us to get through any hardship. And just like we have a relationship with people, by calling and keeping in touch with our friends, it's key we also call and keep in touch with God. PRAY. He answers prayers.
#2 - Read the bible. Read good positive, uplifting words. "Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad." (Proverbs 12:25) They say, "You are what you eat." So if we feed ourselves negativity, doubt, and fear all day, it's gonna be hard. But if we feed ourselves more good, positive, uplifting and encouraging words we can transform our mind, then our behavior then our circumstances. Let's surround ourselves with positivity.
Keep going and growing
I encourage us all to choose to take all Life’s experiences (good and unfavorable) as stepping stones to a higher place and a way to a better, wiser stronger know-better self! Let’s learn and grow from Life. Nope, having a posi-tive mindset will not solve our problems, but it’s easier to find solutions when we have hope and believe there are some.
Hope is essential for the human soul, but we gotta make sure our hope is not based on or tied to something that can be here today and gone tomorrow. Hope attached to our emotions, plans, relationships, or finances will lead to destruction. Our souls have a secure, immovable anchor that we can attach to: His name is Jesus. Hebrews 6:18-20 says, “We who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary. Jesus has already gone in there for us.”
Keep praying, keep your hope and faith in God, and let God be God. Let his great plan for you unfold. However or wherever it's going to happen.
You walk a little differently when you know you have a God that loves, helps, heals, hears, saves, speaks, blesses, guides, teaches, watches, answers, defends, forgives, provides, redeems, remakes, responds for/to you.
It wasn’t until I got to know the Creator of All Things that all things started working together for me. Here are 3 scriptures I remember when I feel like Life is unfair and not working out. I reset and refocus my mind. I am prayerful that whoever reading this post receives some peace, peace, and clarity on their next steps. 3 scriptures for when Life gets hard:
- “Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope.” – Romans 5:3-4
- “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” – Psalm 30:5
- “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33
I also encourage you to read the full chapter of these scriptures to get the fuller scope of the message.
